My laundry is in the basement. The dryer is ventilated through a glass block, a basement window. Since the dryer fan is actually built into the glass block, I can only use the special Deflecto vent cover. Every few years those shutters warp and stick, leaving the shutters open all the time, even when the dryer is off. So you need to change every 1.5-2 years. Easy to install - only four screws. All you have to do is remove the old cap from the whistle - the Deflecto cap is attached to the whistle with two small plastic teeth. 5 minutes to work with your own hands. It's ok - just wish it had lasted longer. I have a gas dryer, that might be a problem.
