During the day I sleep and the fabric is by no means a blackout curtain, but rather darkens the room. Anyway, when the sun comes up, with the curtains drawn, my bed is dark enough to sleep comfortably. I attached plywood to the top opening of my bed under the top sheet of the curtain so my kitty wouldn't fall through. My 2lb cat jumped on the canopy and broke a few strings in places but for the money I paid it was fine. A little needle and thread and it was good as new! Don't expect the big canopy you see in the Royal Palace, but it's not a crappy piece of fabric either. For me it's perfect for the price I paid!
