Review on Inficon Refrigerant Leak Detector Model 705-202-G1: Accurate and Efficient Leak Detection Solution by Nick Reddy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very sensitive leak detector

I chose the Inficon TEK-Mate 705-202-G1 as my first refrigerant leak detector in preparation for HVAC/R work. This is the only "real" leak detector I own (the other is a very inexpensive no-name halogen). I've only used it a couple of times so treat this review accordingly. So far I've used it in residential, commercial (fridge) and automotive applications. He is very sensitive, maybe even too sensitive for his own good. Even on a low setting, I had a hard time determining what a very small leak in the evaporator coil inside the box was. I love the fact that it's made in the USA and comes with proprietary alkaline batteries so you can get started right away. The built-in alarm clock is very loud. You might like this if you work in very (and I mean very) noisy computer rooms. I found it too loud for any other situation, and the constant yelling of alarms during sensor trigger time really gets on my nerves. Unless I thought I was voiding my warranty I would open it up and put something on the horn to muffle it a bit.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Not as thick as other models
