I recently started running in a hammock and wanted a waterproof tarp. I also really wanted a camouflage color. But I just couldn't afford some of the prices I saw. So I was excited when I found this. That excitement soon turned to fear the first time I used it! We had planned this hike for several weeks and the tarp arrived just in time (the day before we left!). When we got to our campsite and set up, I found that there were no instructions on how to use the ridge turnbuckles. Were for pegs but not for the ridge line. I just used the included rope as usual but there was no way to use the attached tensioners, not around the tree and not on the tarp. So when it started to rain, I made myself comfortable in the hammock under the new waterproof tarpaulin. Cozy until the rain came with me. A loop is sewn into the middle of the tarpaulin. I guess to pull a rib line through (just a loop?), well they didn't seal the seam where it was sewn in. The sewing holes and the thread (which acted as a wick) allowed water to get in and soak my knees. I found that water was leaking from several places where the seam was made (on the reinforced sections of the ridge). Couldn't tell if someone had entered the center seam, but at the moment it didn't matter. A nice steady drop in the middle was enough to ruin my hike. So now I decide, instead of just returning it and giving them a bad review, I decide to contact them and see what they do to fix the problem. A free tube of seam sealer or a discount so I can buy my own sealer would be acceptable. I suggested these things but they said no. I can return it and buy another one. For real? Why do I need another holey tarpaulin? No apologies for the ruined trip and the expenses incurred in connection with the trip. So a friend suggested I just eat up the damage, buy some sealant and fix it. So I emailed the company again and asked if the tarp had been treated with silicone or urethane so I could purchase the correct sealant. It took a few weeks of many emails with very vague answers before I finally got a clear answer (urethane). In the meantime I've also sent an email about how the included tensioners are rated for use on the First. Four letters a few weeks later and still no reply. Oh I got an answer but it did NOT answer the question. So not only was the product faulty, but the customer service was TERRIBLE!
