I have a fat butt and I'm a guy. I bought them because I've gained weight (hence my fat butt) and now I couldn't fit into my jeans anymore. I bought 5, four of them L and one XL. Size XL was too big (I'm 34-32, 190lbs) so I just compared what I'm wearing to the shorts which are too big for me and bought four sizes L and they fit well. Great when using my Crooz skateboard. I suppose if you had a smaller butt your waist would be a little smaller because that's normal. But I can even tie my shoelaces, like this. Overall great, I like it.
