This is the most amazing stuff in the world. In the past I've used Bondo, plastic wood (wood spatula), and other products to fill holes in wood. This time I was faced with the task of repairing a large hole in the door to replace the old handle with a new modern one. The holes needed have a very different geometry and I figured I would have to cut pieces of wood to fit the old cut outs and then insert and glue them together. The main hole was too big for Bondo and being by the sea I was also worried that squeezing and buckling the door might eventually cause a crack. When I described the problem, my friend recommended this product to me. I was very happy with his work. Mixing is easy as you only need to mix equal parts. It stays pliable and workable for around 4-6 hours, giving you plenty of time to scrape and shape once it's in place. It's like plasticine, soft and pliable but dense enough to support itself. It is very light and hardens in about 24 hours. I was concerned about its ability to stick as it isn't as sticky when you work with it. You should wear plastic gloves because chemical reactions take place here, but it's actually no stickier than plasticine. So I took some leftovers and made a few small balls about 1 inch in diameter and (a) carefully stacked them together (like a snowman) and (b) carefully placed them on a wooden board. The next day as soon as they were hard I tried to break them. I had to hit the little figure with a hammer to loosen it from the wooden board and I was never able to break the balls cleanly, so the grip I was worried about isn't an issue. adheres well even to smooth surfaces Once cured it is tan in color and much lighter than wood or bondo Sands like wood and can be painted like wood If you need to make cutouts, think about it ahead of time and then cast Material is stretchy , otherwise you may need a dremel for small parts. Advantages: - easy to mix - easy to work with - flexible and workable within 4-6 hours - dries hard like stone - can be sanded and varnished like wood - is waterproof like wood (prone to breakage). This is definitely my new material for renovating high traffic areas.
