If you are looking for an ultra wide-angle lens at an affordable price, the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 is a good choice. It's not a fisheye, so straight lines stay straight. However, the same caveat applies here as with all wide-angle lenses. Do not photograph people on the sides of the frame with this lens as there is a higher chance of distortion. People in the middle are best photographed with an ultra wide-angle lens. For wide-angle newbies like me, one of the tips I've received when shooting with a wide-angle lens is to try to get closer to your subject. Such a wide angle can draw the viewer away from the subject, so it's good to have something in the foreground to grab attention. What's important about this lens is that it has a larger aperture of 3.5. This is good if you plan to shoot indoors or in low light. This is not a fixed focal length, but a slightly more versatile zoom lens. I have a Nikon D5100 and the new Nikon wide angle lens I've seen doesn't work with my camera. This lens works with F-mount cameras. You can check Revain above by searching for your camera model for compatibility. It's also worth mentioning that it has a focus motor and focuses automatically. However, there is no image stabilization, which unfortunately is not really necessary. The build quality of the lens is pretty good. It's a little on the heavy side, but feels solid. It also comes with a petal hood to protect against sun glare and a soft lens case. One thing to note on a DX camera is that 10-20mm is actually 15-30mm due to the crop factor. Photos tend to be sharp in the center of the frame at all apertures, but the corners can be a little blurry. If you need sharper corners, you may need an aperture of F-8 or F-11. EDIT: I had the opportunity to use this lens on a recent trip to Ireland and thought I'd share some shots with this lens. . The lens can also create beautiful sunburst effects! I was very happy with the performance of this lens in Ireland. I've shot many landscapes directly through the window of a tour bus with fast shutter speeds. I had glare at times that I might have reduced with a polarizing filter. The lens is great for framing an entire building or for truly stunning landscape shots. F/3.5 is a good lens for the price.
