Review on Walker 81978 CalCat Catalytic Converter by Gary Haymon

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Because it is one of the best Toyota engines for 4 cylinders.

Bought this part number to install a '98 Tacoma Pre-Runner with a 209,000 mile 2.7L 4 cylinder 3RZ-FE. Why put a new cat on a car with such high mileage? Because it's one of the best Toyota engines ever built for 4-cylinder engines, it still burns clean and runs smooth! The cat "fits" where the old one was, but it's not quite the "straight fit" as advertised. Be sure to get the correct spacers for both ends of the new cat, they are not supplied and the new ones from the factory seem to work. The problem is that the flange is very different from the factory cat, the picture of the part is pretty accurate and if you do it yourself you know what the original looks like and it's different. It's bolted on, the flanges aren't fixed so it can rotate so you have to be careful when you attach it and of course install it in the correct orientation, but this is an easy 1-banana fix if you get an error code "P0420". After I had it and passed it with flying colours, very clean. The only downside is that I'm concerned about durability as the flanges seem to fit and can leak over time. HTN.
