Review on Trickle 890EM US W Plug Energy Monitor by Raj Mazzabufi

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great tool if accurate!

I have started monitoring the load in the house to determine the size of the backup generator. I made a lot of assumptions based on online generator sizing tools, but figured I should measure them myself. Boy am I glad I did! The internet says the fridge is rated at 700w but this monitor showed around 150w! The same goes for the freezer, the TV and a few other things. If this Trickle Star monitor isn't very inaccurate, it may have saved me from buying an oversized generator. I'm deducting a star for several reasons: 1. Is it really accurate? I don't know, I don't have an energy meter to measure the accuracy of the energy meter.2. The display has no backlight. Nothing bad, but slightly annoying.3. And probably the most important thing for me is that it doesn't keep track of min and max values to register fluctuations in performance, which you won't see unless you constantly monitor it. I would like to know what is the maximum capacity of the fridge when the motor is on or when the auto defrost heater is on. I know this tool is designed to help people keep track of their overall energy use, but a simple min/max tracker would be extremely helpful.
