Review on πŸ“ Keson RRT12 Top Reading Center Line Measuring Wheel - Accurate Handle Brake & Reset - 3-Foot with ft. & in. Graduations by David Garnic

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Suitable for field work in dry weather.

This is a cute little measuring wheel - get the 1ft diameter version as it can be more accurate than the smaller one. I use this to measure trail distances and compare to GPS readings when satellite coverage is poor. For some reason, this works best downhill, but the measurements in the two directions (uphill and uphill) are pretty close. It seems to track fairly accurately over a known distance or in areas with good GPS coverage. In the Pacific Northwest, if it's wet and you use it on a forest trail, it picks up a lot of pine needles or mud. I lift it up a bit and brush off the dirt with a boot or a rag. I don't think the needles will cause any problems, but I don't want them building up and sealing the mechanism hidden under the handle on top of the wheel.

Pros
  • Sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • The list will be long.
