Review on Ranger SRA-198 Noise Canceling Mic for CB Ham Radios - 4 Pin Wired by Jason Dahlkemper

First of all I would like to say that this microphone is solid, heavy and well made. I was looking for something to use with the Galaxy dx.959 and this mic was recommended to me. It comes pre-wired to work with Galaxy 4 pin radios and more. Well, I didn't necessarily pick this mic for its noise-cancelling ability because I don't really need the noise-cancelling as it's going to be used indoors. After connecting the microphone, I noticed the problem immediately. It's just that he wouldn't drive my 959 at all. I mean none, notta, as in zilch. I ended up having to bypass the cap in the mic and it finally came alive. I've heard reports that these mics are too muted for some radios, but in my case the solution was simple. I'm getting great sound reports and am very happy with the performance of this mic after getting it working properly. It still deletes a lot of background noise after modification. The initial problem is the reason for the 4 stars and not the 5. This is a mic for close talks, bearing that in mind it will work well.
