Works like clockwork

I am using this splitter to stream HD cable TV from a DVR in our common room to the kitchen. This required a 30-foot HDMI cable (I use an Aurum Ultra HDMI cable) and some cable fiddling, but that was the hardest part of the job. I was a bit apprehensive about hooking up a second TV to a cable box because HDMI seems finicky. One problem I had was trying to split the output from my surround receiver to my 60 inch panny plasma TV. The benefit of this approach was that my Blu-ray player could also run that single HDMI cable through the receiver, so I could theoretically watch any cable or Blu-ray content on both TVs while watching the signal through the receiver directed. However, the receiver (Pioneer Elite VSX21) did not output any sound and some of the boxes stopped working on any device (notably 3D output and channel-on-demand). So I had to split the HDMI signal from the DVR box. When I did that, everything worked wonderfully. The only thing I had to do was dub to watch a Blu-ray DVD in the kitchen. In order to still be able to use my Panasonic surround sound system, I had to run a digital optical audio cable between the television and the receiver, since the cable box is no longer per HDMI connected to the receiver (box The DVR only has one HDMI output to supply). Can't comment on how well 1080p works as the best cable box is 1080i. Despite this, the picture on both TVs is absolutely clear, there is no noticeable signal lag. It only takes a few seconds for the splitter to figure out what it's doing. I have a second remote control for the DVR unit that I can leave in the kitchen and a next generation remote control extension so I can control the DVR unit from the kitchen even though it's in the living room office. That works great! Now I can see everything in both rooms and turn on both TVs when I want to run to the kitchen for a beer or a bite without having to pause the program. Also, I enjoy knowing that I don't have to pay the cable company for another kitchen box that can output HDTV, so I'll be saving a few bucks every month. I will recoup my investment in cables, splitters and remote extenders in less than a year. I'm thinking of hooking up an HDMI over Ethernet extender to the upstairs TV as there are 2 splitter ports left on the J-Tech box. In hindsight I could have gone with a 2x4 matrix splitter then it probably worked, but my main concern was getting the cable to two TVs and for that it works great. Not sure what happens when both TVs are on and I try to watch 3D content on the Panny. I assume the HDMI signal is "muted" to the lowest functionality available on both TVs. Since the second TV doesn't support 3D, I assume I'll have to turn it off to watch 3D on another TV. I'll post an update once I've tried it. All in all, this device works great as long as you have realistic expectations and understand how to connect everything. Haven't seen overheating or other issues yet, but I've only had it for a few weeks.
