As always, these things come down to taste. The homemade vanilla is a little watery but has a smooth, creamy mouthfeel. It definitely tastes like vanilla, although it does have a slightly metallic aftertaste. It's not my favorite flavor, but it's something I could certainly drink in a pinch. Although they're primarily intended to support people with diabetes, the intrinsic nutritional value makes them a great choice for a regular protein shake. In each 11 fl oz serving, you're getting 150 calories, 1.5 grams of total fat (0.5 grams saturated), 7 grams of total carbohydrates (4 grams of fiber, 3 grams of total sugars (including 2 grams of added sugars)), and 30 grams of protein. There are also a variety of vitamins and minerals. I personally like more calories in protein shakes because I like to use them for breakfast. Still, so few calories for such a relatively high protein content is really impressive, making them the perfect snack. Even if you're not a diabetic, it's easy for you to recommend these protein shakes.
