I was just reading about the wool rug used by quilters. It seemed like a good idea and if I could use my countertop instead of setting up an ironing board that would be even better. The mat is quite durable and does not sag when the iron is placed vertically on it. I find it easier to iron out creases in fabric than with an ironing board. Instead of ironing on the "cotton" setting, I can iron on the "wool" setting of the iron and get the same good results. This should be better for the fabric I'm working with. The carpet perfectly withstands the heat of the "Cotton" mode when you need a higher temperature. When using the steam from the iron, the carpet smelled like "wet wool", but it wasn't unpleasant. My only concern is that the countertop I use under my rug gets quite warm and humid when I use my iron's steam. My guess is that over time the wood laminate countertop will deteriorate from the repetitive steam and heat. Also, the laminate adhesive will likely come loose. This is why I use my rug on a granite countertop. I would buy this again.
