It fits the New Nintendo 3DS XL perfectly, even with my case on.

The cover is not hard plastic, it looks like hard leather and will buckle under strong pressure so the case is not indestructible. The fit is a bit tight to zip up with the charger and it's such a hassle to get the 3DS XL out of the straps so I just put my DS on the straps as the case fits snug enough in my bag. I'm sure the straps would have been put to better use without my DS case. Consider cutting them open and attaching the Velcro straps yourself. Plus it's freaking adorable and I love it to death.
