Review on Sony PS-LX250H Automatic Belt-Drive Turntable (No Longer Manufactured) by Christopher Bates

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Happy to spin again

I have owned two turntables in 40 years including a quality Pioneer with top quality Shure cartridges and a Mitsubishi "linear" which I bought as a spare at the end of the vinyl era. Mitsubishi was adequate but collapsed 6 months ago leaving me with nothing. I only listen to classical music/opera. "iPod-whatever" isn't good for the long, old (1950s-1980s) classic recordings, which I prefer. I had already recorded most of my vinyl on a professional cassette but still needed a turntable. Having read the reviews and seen that this Sony was not USB (no point in doing so as digitizing vinyl's excellent wideband analog audio would be totally counterproductive) and that it easily plugged into existing "phono" - jacks could be connected (my receiver only had one set of CD slots), I decided to give it a try. Ordered from Revain, arrived in about 3 days with standard free shipping and no sales tax. I am completely satisfied. The sound is much better than the Mitsubishi I replaced but not as good as my old Pioneer (according to the recordings I made) which was a top of the line 1970's. I've only had my Sony for about a month but have used it a lot. It connects easily, is very easy to use and the sound is good to very good. It will have to wait in the long run, but I don't use it that much. I would highly recommend this unit to all of us who still know and appreciate the superior sound and vibe of vinyl recordings. People are shocked when they hear what they missed through their tin horns, digital audio devices.
