Review on ATD Tools 10511 Shop Polisher by Jeremy Gorsage

Can be made in China but very durable!

Sometimes I feel like people have expectations that aren't true. Like you, I always read "1" or "2" reviews to learn more about a product. I've read reviews that say this tool is rough, noisy, very hot, etc. It is based on an angle grinder! If you've never used or heard of an angle grinder, they are noisy and have gears in the power head to make a 90 degree bend. This tool has an excellent very smooth slow start and variable speed. It doesn't mean constant torque control, but it looks like it. It's no louder than any other tool of its kind, doesn't get hotter, doesn't emit odors, and doesn't work harsher than any other tool of its kind. Actually, everything went pretty smoothly. Not bad for a Chinese tool. Is there a better one? Without a doubt. But unless you're a professional detailer, you probably don't need to spend money on the best. The machine is heavy, so working with vertical surfaces is isometric training, but it's an integral part of the job. Do not use unnecessary accessories that come with the kit. Get a Chemical Guys 6 inch base plate (BUFLC_BP_R_6.1) or similar and good pads (Chem Guys BUFX or similar). Just get them at the same time. The pad shaft threads are 5/8-11 (this is a 5/8 inch, 11 TPI shaft for non-hardware types). Some DA polishers use shafts with 5/16-18 threads, and all pad manufacturers make pads with both kinds of threads, so make sure you choose the right pad. I'm very satisfied. It has my TSX well polished. The car has never looked better.
