I use these over the floor mats that come with the car. Very durable, keeps dirt, water and snow perfectly on the mat and does not penetrate the floorboard. If the smell bothers you, leave it on the porch or outside for a while. What to install. It's rubber and it smells like new rubber. Easy to clean, remove, rinse, dry and reattach. This is my 4th set. I have 4 cars. Not a single wear in 20 years. And this accounts for weather down to -50 below. What normally causes objects to crack and break did not happen. Great for my Yota. I will not buy any other rug again.
