I just downgraded my rating from 5 to 3 stars. This is a great mug warmer if you can make it stay. Two devices failed exactly the same. ------ A few years ago I bought the same cup warmer. Then it started developing a bug that caused it to shut down shortly after it was turned on. Since it has served me well for so long, I bought another one. But I didn't buy another one without doing my homework. I've checked to see if any competing products have emerged over the years that could be better. They weren't then. The term warmer means that if you really want warm coffee or other liquid, it's all about WATTS. In short, more heat means more watts. This coffee warmer might be more Mickey Mouse (pun intended), but at the time of this review, it was the only 30-watt device that cost less than $100. Look at the power rating of the others. They have 15, 20 or 24 watts. This heat barely keeps your coffee warm. By the age of three, this unit will reach just over 260 degrees Fahrenheit at the surface, as measured by a laser thermometer. So this Mickey Mouse block will keep your coffee hot without making it too hot. So this cup warmer is more like Mickey Mouse. So what? We are talking about one of the most important problems facing mankind - how to keep coffee hot. In comparison, everything else seems insignificant... well... a cartoon mouse. I love "hot" coffee. By the way, this mug warmer worked so well for me for years that I had to buy another one when the first one finally died. Unfortunately, the story doesn't end here. The second broke just like the first. Turn it on and it turns off between half a second and a few minutes after you turn it on. If you can make it stay on, it will definitely keep your coffee warm. But the problem is getting him to stay. Just to test, I turned it on every time it turned off to see if it would ever work. After more than 30 power cycles it stayed on. When I next used it, it lasted over 50 power cycles. This is unacceptable. Logic dictates that with everything to do with the heating element, the heating element should come first. But the problem is NOT with the heating element. It is located in the switch electronics. If you manage to stay on for about 5 minutes, it will work fine until the next time you turn it on. But every time you have to fight to get things to this point. Since both devices failed exactly the same, I have to assume that the cause of this failure is a design or manufacturing error. Now I'm looking for another 30w unit with a panel that can reach at least 260 degrees. Pity…
