I loved it the first season but during the winter months (Wisconsin) it cracked even though the water was turned off and I drained the water. Turn before winter. I suspect I had a small leak through the check valve which must have pressurized the line over time. However, the line wasn't filled with water, so I don't think the valve failed. I need to take it off and examine it to see what might have happened. But it cracked on the side - next to the ball latch. UPDATE: I removed and inspected the valve yesterday. These ball valves trap a small amount of liquid around the ball when in the closed position. I believe this can cause it to crack when temperatures are extremely low. Rather than blaming the valve, the real cause of my valve failure was that the house check valve was leaking. I haven't repaired the check valve so this shouldn't be a problem in the future. Still, I think it's important to blow the line before winter sets in. For this reason I have raised my rating from 2 to 4 stars.
