Before this magnet I used these retractable badge laces to hold my camel bread tube. But the rope on these things wore out over time. This magnet holds the hose very well. It never fell apart for me. And after drinking, the tube can be easily put back on the magnet on the chest strap. Oh, and I use this for mountain biking, not hiking. Update 3 years later: I still love this magnet. As I was out biking this weekend and snapped my hydration tube back into place I thought what a good buy this is.
