You better have a drill

I checked the instructions ahead of time and while I found it odd that the side panels were divided into THREE separate pieces, the instructions looked simple enough. I installed the first side panel and fixed shelf with no problems. But after this catastrophe. The instructions said to hammer wooden dowels into the holes at the bottom of the second permanent board, which I did. No problem. But then was told to insert two long screws THROUGH the wooden dowels. But I couldn't because they were the same holes that the wooden pins went in. It turned out that the manufacturer did not have holes for the pin. So I tried to remove the pins with pliers and two of them broke (they're not exactly hardwood). In short, after about 15 minutes of wrestling and thinking. I simply drilled the screws into different holes with a drill. It worked but then I had to drill larger holes for the wooden dowels in the third and final board and while I thought I picked the right drill bit they turned out to be BABY bigger so I had to put some sticky glue in the holes, wait for it to settle a bit, then insert the wooden pegs and continue working. But collecting this thing is a bear. I started at 10:45 am and didn't finish until 2:00 pm. Worst finished shelf I've ever seen. 20 years ago I built a CD rack from scratch (really!) and it only took me two hours. As you go down when making this piece, the bottom panels tend to stick out a bit. This isn't too much of a problem since you'll eventually want the wider part of the cabinet to be at the bottom. But it's really a lot of assembly work. The side panels had to be one piece and everything would be fine.
