Great dog flap. When I bought my house from the old owner, my sliding glass door had a one-piece glass door/latch installed. So I tried the door, my dogs were my first experience with a dog door. My dogs got used to it quickly and loved it. What I really like is the plastic flap that slides into the door rail with a locking pin. We close the hatch at night and when we are not home for security reasons so that other animals do not come into our home when we are not around. It's safe and secure, giving you peace of mind. Well, fast forward a few years and we've pulled out our sliding glass door and replaced it with custom French doors. So, I liked the Petsafe dog door, which I was planning to buy new to put in my new French doors. The downside of the sliding door I was planning to buy was that it only comes with a weather hatch that lets some cold air into the house during the winter months. So I was looking for a double hatch door for my new French doors for more energy efficiency. This company makes double hatch doors, but they all come with a plastic latch cover that doesn't seem secure to prevent other animals from entering your home when you're not home. I live in Washington state next to a forest and it's not uncommon for larger animals like a raccoon is it? (which we have near the house) scurry around the backyard and get into trouble at night. You can easily push these snap lock dog doors from the outside, open them and enter your home! So I definitely wanted a slide rail cover with a locking pin, but with a double flap/flap, which this company doesn't currently offer. So we read reviews and look for other dog doors. Another customer shared in their review the great idea of buying 2 of these sliding door models and placing the leaf sections on either side of the door to make 1 double leaf door with slide rail protection. I followed the recommendation and it worked wonderfully. My dogs are more used to the dual valve than the single valve and it offers better weather protection in the colder months. And yes, go to the hardware store and buy replacement metal screws instead of plastic ones like everyone else recommends. However, the only downside to my setup is that the company does not currently sell my precision track and double leaf door. You will end up spending more money to buy 2 dog doors instead of 1 door. Profit gain for this company but financial loss for you. But the end product is excellent.
