I love my cats, but sometimes I really don't want them in the bedroom. However, I don't want to lock myself in my bedroom and I love the air circulation in my home, so a tall baby gate is ideal. I chose these because sometimes I also want to enclose them in the kitchen, which requires additional extensions. Two of my cats are not very intellectually gifted and I can say with absolute certainty that this gate prevented them from doing so. Fiyero managed to get a paw in and Fiona got an ear. Even at full stretch, Fiyero, my largest cat, couldn't get past the gate and that was enough to convince them both that it was insurmountable and they had to give up. Success! (Harry, my really smart cat, didn't even try to get in, so I can't guarantee critters will be discouraged.) Oddly enough, what I really liked about this gate were the instructions. I'm a former technical writer, so I always read the instructions (please read the instructions: someone wrote them for a reason!). While these instructions were clearly written by a non-English speaker, they were very adamant about some of the things that helped me get set up. For example, there is a zipper that holds the door and goal together when you pull the goal out of the box (see picture: everything was firmly connected!). This zip has a notice NOT to remove the zip prior to installation and the instructions include additional instructions on how to hold this zip in place and when removed tie the door to the gate. I used to take baby gates and didn't have these instructions. Installation was a huge pain and if I had known the gate wasn't bent and that simply tying the door down would save me a headache, the installation would have been a lot easier and quicker! The instructions for this gate, while not the most grammatically correct, were thorough enough that I actually found it easier to install than any previous gate. It came with a lot of hardware and the wrench I needed (and in fact it was a better wrench for the job than a regular wrench because it was so thin and could fit into tight spaces). Once installed, the gates felt secure and the bars were close enough together that no adult cat could slip through them like my former escape master cat once did. I also like a little decoration in curved sticks. This makes it look a little better than your standard baby gate.
