I've had a lot of problems with the scratching post in the past. They're either too easy to crush (both my kitties love vertical scratches) or too hard or too soft for my girls to care about. I was also apprehensive about buying this one because the material is quite tough. My girls just love this post though! Next to this post I have a soft scraper for initial scratches and then they go to this scraper for more "fine tuning" of scratches and to sharpen their claws. It's incredibly strong, very easy to assemble and I love how heavy it is. Not too heavy that I can't move it when I need to, but heavy enough that it doesn't move at all when my cats ride it around town. The height is pretty good too. My black cat loves to sit on it during the day, looking around her kingdom and pretending to be Batman. Quality purchase, I am sure I will buy another one like this in the future.
