No cyclist is immune to the possibility of a bike chain breaking at the worst possible time, place or weather conditions. However, it can be argued that such accidents can easily be avoided if, as a rider, you conscientiously inspect all components of your bike before, during and after each ride, because intact chains don't really break easily in the blink of an eye. a process that provides telltale signs along the way. But when that happens, this argument is already invalid. It doesn't matter if that rider is using Shimano pins (which they will no doubt need) or SRAM/KMC chain links, which is very handy. If the chain breaks in a section that isn't on the SRAM/KMC chain link, you're done if you don't have this tool. Get it, write down enough practice time, pop it in your saddlebag and off you go. the trip. Easy.
