Set the desired torque, make sure the bit is seated properly in the buckle, then SLOWLY AND CONTINUOUSLY PULL the handle until it clicks. You should see and hear it clearly when you are not near the jet engine. If you twitch on the torque wrenches, you're more likely to get bad readings. Even at the maximum setting of 20Nm you should be able to pull the torque wrench slowly and steadily with one hand until it clicks.
