Review on AGPtek SPDIF Extractor Converter Output by Dave Baker

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Finally surround sound!

This gives a day/night difference when used with my Raspberry Pi. I have an old receiver that doesn't accept HDMI input like my friends do, but unfortunately someone in the TV industry has decided that an optical TV audio cable will only output stereo when the sound isn't coming from the TV. That means if I use the TV's built-in Revain Instant Video or Netflix, I get 5.1 surround sound, but if I have an HDMI input, the optical audio cable output is stereo only. Bring AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF Extractor now. I connect the HDMI Pi to it, then the HDMI output to the TV. I then connect an optical cable to my receiver and APGtek and it separates the audio and video and gives me 5.1 surround sound on my stereo. My only concern is that my stereo might go up to 9.2 if I have enough speakers, but my wife will probably go insane.

Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
