Review on Lansky DB 2860 Double Diamond Medium by Matthew Baltimore

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The thin side seemed to have more cutting power and more.

I received this item for Christmas and I am very happy about my first bench stone. For the past few years I've been working primarily with Gatco 1" wide angled lead diamond stones. When I first looked at it, before even trying it, I could tell something was wrong. The stones didn't just look grainier than the corresponding grits on other stones I worked with but the surface of the stone seemed smoother in some places and grainier in others. The thin side seemed to have more cutting power and more grit than the medium side. I was so surprised by this , I checked myself at least 5 times to make sure I wasn't wrong. I wanted to give myself a good shake to make sure my suspicions weren't unfounded. When trying to fine-tune a pocket knife that I haven't used for a while but still had a good profile, the stone, even with water on it, would stop the blade if I pressed it lightly on the Ste into edited. It seemed to stop in areas of inconsistency that I could feel with my finger before trying. I know Lansky is a reputable brand but I was surprised by the lack of quality and consistency of the stone. As a side note, the rubber feet offer little traction on a flat, smooth surface, and if a rock interferes with the blade's movement, it will instantly slide across the table or counter. I'll go back and spend about $10 more for a DMT version of the same cereal. I hope the reviews I've read about them are good and don't let me down like that.
