The item is listed as being made from solid spruce and it is in fact solid wood. The slats were the right size for my daughter's double bed frame, except that one slat at the head end of the bed frame was a few millimeters wider. I was able to smack it hard a few times and adjust it to size WITHOUT having to trim it. The fact that this bar is so snug is actually a good thing because it helps prevent slipping or falling out. Also, the slats come with straps that hold them together so they don't fall out. It supports two mattresses and my daughter without a box spring. I bought one off eBay which was cheaper but (despite being advertised as hardwood) it was cheap plywood made in Indonesia and smelled like glue which is made from a resin that gives off gases. This one on Revain is indeed solid wood, not plywood, and we're happy with that. The only thing is that the shipping cost for this product is too high.
