I have never tried cotton wadding, I have always used thicker wadding. I felt like with my latest quilted top I wanted something that wasn't as thick and bulky but still warm and cozy. This beating is perfect. It's very soft, the perfect thickness, and feels like it'll be nice and warm without being bulky. The size was much larger than I expected, you can see the size in my photos. The top of the comforter is a king size flannel sheet, the batting is under the top of the comforter and then I have a gray king size sheet,
