slice bagels, not fingers

Is it just me, or are bakers trying to outdo each other by making more and more bagels? I've ruined too many bagels with my bread knife, but my old bagel cutter isn't big enough to handle today's bagels. This one is huge, but my local baker's bagels barely fit in it. All the bagels I've tried from the grocery store fit perfectly. However, it does its job well and is very safe with a sharp blade protected by a plastic sheath. The effort required to cut the bagel is minimal. However, it is a little difficult to clean around the blade. It also slices English muffins if you want, so that's pretty useful. All of us broke loose and one actually fell out, but we found it. I tightened them with a screwdriver and will keep an eye on them in the future. I might have to put a drop of Loctite on it.

Pros
  • Clear sleeve provides visibility and protects hands/fingers from injury; wide base provides stability during use
Cons
  • I'll text back later
