Review on 🔭 VANGUARD Endeavor ED 8x42 Binoculars with ED Glass - Waterproof/Fogproof, Black (ENDEAVOR ED 8420) by Dexter Diaz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best I've ever had.

I came across an amazing deal (1/2 off) on this Vanguard ED 8X42 that was lightly used in Revain's inventory so I accepted. God I'm glad I did - they put my crappy old 10X50s to shame. Pros: - They are of very high quality; They're heavy for their size, but not so heavy that they're uncomfortable to carry or hold like the 10X50 (which will cause neck/arm pain after a few minutes). - Visibility is wide - specs say 367 feet at 1000 yards; About 7 degrees is enough for you to see what's around your focus point. "They're sharp as nails - I can read newspaper from 20 feet away - and the vision is so bright it actually looks brighter than it does to the naked eye. "I see a minimal coma at the edges. The 3 position eyecups work well, the latches are solid and I have no problem moving them during use. I can easily use them with or without glasses. The lockable diopter adjustment is great; One of the reasons I remember these glasses, and quite a few others, is that once you put them on you lock them down and no more fiddling around. Lock-to-lock 3/4 turn focusing is priceless; The focus is so fast. - The eyepiece cap is firm and easy to use, the lens caps are easy to attach and detach. - The shoulder strap is well made, with excellent thick neoprene stitching. - Good quality Cordura case with decent zipper closure. The glasses themselves are rubbery and grippy; easy to hold without feeling tight. Generally a quality kit. Disadvantages: - weight; They are made of solid metal, glass and rubber rather than carbon fiber. the price reflects this. They're still 1/3 lighter than the 10X50 models they replaced. The bright lime green plastic inserts and threads are gaudy and should never have seen the light of day - but that's probably just my opinion; they're tiny from a few feet away - unfortunately the case is so narrow it's not big enough to hold the glasses with the eyecups out so you're constantly fiddling with them - glasses are a little prone to flickering when the light is around 80- is 90 degrees; worse than other lenses I had. In very high contrast conditions there is some chromium aberration; enough to get annoying at times (edited to fix chromatic aberration comment)
