Metal thin Don't squeeze it with pliers. Decent sized holes. I was able to thread four SoftFlex Fine threads without having to ream the hole. I've used them to cover up beaded tassels and they look amazing. They are shiny silver, not an aged color. Also, I now have a lifetime supply.
