These are the guards to buy. They're not too tight and they look good too. There is a felt lining to protect against scratches and the selection in this set is good. The only thing I find useless is the smallest, but that's because I don't travel with a double knife. The only word of warning I can say is that the 8" guards are a bit short for 8" knives, but the 10" guards fit perfectly. Don't worry, I have a 6" and a 7" that fit perfectly. not suitable for slicers depending on the curvature of the knife. Overall a great purchase. Note: I bought Ergo Chef Guards and was very disappointed, they scratched my expensive Japanese knives. stay away
