Overly complex design almost guarantees failure to fill tire

As a mountain biker of over 20 years I've owned a number of Co2 inflators. Simplicity is the best design when it comes to an inflator: Simply screw the cartridge in one side and have the other side be a rubber seal that presses against the presta valve stem. Puncture the Co2 cartridge and fill the tire - it should be that easy. This inflator is overly complex and has several flaws. First off it requires one to screw on the inflator to the valve stem. When you're hot and sweaty and on the trail side, futzing with trying to thread a small piece of aluminum on a stem is not ideal. Again, a simple rubber seal with no threads works just as good and is so much easier. When removing the inflator, it had a tendency to remove the presta valve core. Somehow the inflator was able to grip the core and, when unscrewing the inflator, remove it from the valve stem. Then you're screwed as all the air you just put in is expelled forcing you to you screw the core back in the stem and start again from square one.Lastly, the part of the inflator that screws on to the stem unscrewed from the inflator causing leaks. This thing is very poorly designed and dare I say again, far too complicated.Something like this with a simple rubber seal for presta valve stems (though it does have threads for a shrader valve) is all you need: https://www.amazon.com/Planet-Bike-Zeppelin-Inflator-Head/dp/B000RYBGAC/ref=sr_1_37?crid=2RBRH8OE15YP1&keywords=Portland+Design+Works+co2+inflator&qid=1655859535&sprefix=portland+design+works+co2+inflator%2Caps%2C346&sr=8-37In fact, even this design is more complicated then necessary. One doesn't need to control the flow or amount of Co2 to fill a bike tire. It's not like you're going to save a punctured Co2 cartridge for another day. The high-pressure of a Co2 cartridge is going to leak out no matter what - you can't "save" the rest of the Co2 for another day.

Pros
  • great product. easy to use, easy to carry on bike rides, simple and effective
Cons
  • The inflator may not be compatible with all valve types, requiring the user to purchase additional adapters
