This is actually the second voice recorder I've bought. The first was an RCA I bought at Walmart. It only worked once for a few minutes! It was a disaster. Then I bought this one. Sony is a good brand and I've had a lot more success with it. One feature I'm overlooking that RCA had is the fold down USB connection. It doesn't have a USB port. It also depends entirely on batteries and batteries are not rechargeable. The sound quality is very good, maybe even excellent. It's easy to use. It has a microphone jack and a headphone jack or line out. The price and the brand attracted me to the product and I was generally satisfied.
