These ladders are ideal for animals with hip and hindquarter problems. We recently bought an SUV with an exceptionally high rear entry. Our new car is too big for our 11 year old shepherd to put his paws on, let alone jump into. The product is well made, very durable and from day one our dog had no problem using the ladder to get straight into the car. He didn't even hesitate. I find it a bit awkward to fold, it gets easier with practice, but it's not an instant set and close item. It's quite bulky and we have to fold down the seats to accommodate our two German Shepherds and the ladder. It's a bit hard for me to get it in and out, but I think those imperfections make it strong enough for an 80-pound dog to use without hurting himself. I still highly recommend this item. (We also have a ramp, but that's not an option due to the height of the rear bumper. The incline is too steep to use). .
