The bag is strong enough, although the straps are a bit tight when putting it on and taking it off, and I don't know why. We have many backpacks for different sports and none have this problem. The lanyard is quite long IMHO - the cat had several occasions where it jumped and dangled from its harness until I could remove the shoulder straps and backpack. Great popup, but there are a few features I'd like to improve. 1 - large pocket - there is almost no room for anything other than a small treat or leash. If you want to go camping (that's why I bought it) you need a second person to carry EVERYTHING. the pair had this feature) 3- upgraded shoulder straps and waist belt. The shoulder straps are only adjustable from below and the hip belt is nothing more than a piece of webbing. Because it's not adjustable that high, my husband can't even put this backpack on. Unfortunately it was the best choice out of the half dozen packs we ordered. There's still a lot to be desired, but it does the job.
