Review on Lacdo External Protective Carrying Superdrive by Mike Messerly

Good drive, avoid the included DVD Cyberlinks only adware

The DVD player/burner is good. while it works fine. I'm a fan of light travel drive. I haven't tested it with our Samsung Smart TV yet to see if TV mode works. The setup was unnecessarily confusing. The driver works with either LG AND Microsoft, which have a different version of VLC in the App Store.1. LG must state in the written instruction insert that the included DVD is NOT required to use the drive. The implied/specified instructions are for installing the software to use the drive. NOT needed and Cyberlink DVD is full of adware for PowerDVD player free trial for 1 month then they try to charge you for usage. NOT NECESSARY. I recommend NOT installing the drive but throwing it away (and LG support confirmed the drive is pure adware when I called). 2. NO SOFTWARE provided with the drive. VLC is the player that LG instructs to play content. This isn't a problem since I use VLC anyway, but this time my new Windows 10 PC is to blame and download version 3.0.5 directly (download for Windows 64-bit). You can then set VLC as the default app to play content if the drive works like a dream. Summary: 1. DO NOT install any software from the CD that came with the drive (ALL adware is from Cyberlink)2. Go directly to the VLC website to get the right app as the Microsoft Store version is not available. Hope that helps. Some of these recommendations are in other reviews I tried to follow, but ended up having to call LG anyway. It might save time for some others.
