When I bought it Schumacher thought they make a good charger. This one sounded like it would fit. I've had this thing for maybe ten months, but I've only used it four times. When I used it on Monday I found no results with it. Then the negative pole fell off. I saw that it was a bare metal wire crimped to the terminal, not the insulation, and was held in place with a screw as intended. This meant there was no strain relief on the cable and due to slight metal fatigue after four uses this flimsy wire fell apart. This made the device 100% non-functional. Please see the negative clamp picture above. You can see the broken wire. You can also see the clip was dirty inside like they held it under water or something. It was surprisingly disgusting. To be honest I was stunned. The fact that the solution was simple - clean the clamp, get the right size bolt and nut from a trash can, remove it, make a spade, tighten and put the right insulation on. it wasn't about that. This thing failed and left me stuck until I operated on it. This is unacceptable even for someone who knows what they are doing, and doubly unacceptable for someone not used to disassembling and repairing things. By the way, the engine starter setting does not work. Straightforward, too weak, at least for the Ford F-150. Maybe it works on the Fiat 500, I don't know. These wires aren't thick enough to handle 50 amps. They are measured as 12 gauge 14 gauge wire, definitely no more than 12 gauge 20 amp wire. I was expecting a 50 amp charging cable to be rated like a 6 gauge 50 amp cable, but there was no way this cable could handle a sustained 50 amp load without burning out.
