I bought this in desperation like most people who spend close to $50 on a plush turtle and have fast delivery on Saturday. I had to sleep. I need my 9 month old to sleep. We were driving out of town and I figured that if he got tired and only napped in the car during the day while we were out, his number of nocturnal awakenings would worsen. I was ready to try Tranquil Turtle. After one of the worst car rides I've ever had with my kids, we arrived very late and I didn't expect my little boy to sleep at all after sleeping in the car for a while and then playing somewhere new at 11am Go through a modified bedtime, read some stories and put the little guy in a bag and play, turn on the turtle and leave the room. He talked a little, chatted, was silent. I couldn't tell if he was sleeping so I went over to spy and he sat admiring the beautiful underwater effect the turtle creates in a dark room. Then I watched as he rolled onto his side, raised his hand in the air to wave to the "waves" (in surrender I believe), and when I came back down he was already asleep. NO CRYING. We used the tortoise for two full days of sleeping and sleeping and there were no protracted struggles. he just lies down and eventually falls asleep. Even in the middle of the night when he wakes up, turning on the turtle helps. I think he'll hit the button soon. This turtle is magical. I'm curious to see if the novelty wears off or if it still has the same impact at home as we wrap up our journey. I am very happy to use him in our camper as it is difficult for him to settle in due to his open bed and overall busier sleeping area. I will update the review if we try. I'm really happy with the tortoise so far. Sounds are not too loud and optional. You can move the light to create a wavy effect or stand still. Some people have complained that it only stays on for 23 minutes, but I think that works well as it usually takes 15-20 minutes to fall asleep - I think if it takes longer it could be a distraction. I'm guessing my boyfriend got into that sleepy state watching the light show and if he's still awake when it stops, he's just drifting off into dreamland. So glad I bought it.
