Review on 🚰 Moen 140780 Chrome Vessel Sink Pop-Up Drain Assembly for Bathroom by Steve Harris

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I can't believe I wrote so much about the plum

I can't believe I have so much to say about the plum but it was a rewarding experience so I'll share it. Be aware of this plum: * The color of oiled bronze is lighter than most oiled bronze fittings. It doesn't look out of place with my much darker faucet, but I would have preferred a darker finish. However, most people will probably never notice a color difference with normal use of the sink.* Depending on the color, drains come in different lengths. The ORB drain is 6.5 inches long, shorter than most drains. This wasn't a problem for me, but you can review your plumbing configuration or plan to purchase an extension tube. fix potential problems before purchase. Installation was relatively easy. Here are a few notes: * The metal nut that tightens to the bottom of the sink is annoyingly short in height, making it harder than necessary for me to hold the pipe plug pliers against it while tightening. * I replaced the flange gasket with sanitary putty. so that the flange is flush with the sink. No problem. *I used duct tape on all the metal threaded connections that I recommend as I had quite a few leaks until I did this. I have never replaced a sink drain and my plumbing experience is limited to replacing faucets. However, I found that the hardest part of this project was figuring out what sizes/specs of snap drain were critical, and then finding a drain that met those needs. And my sink seems pretty ordinary. Here's what I learned: * Most importantly, what is the diameter of the hole in the sink that the drain needs to go through? There are several common drain hole diameters and it is important to ensure that the drain you choose is small enough to fit through the hole. I didn't realize at first that sinks have different sized holes and the first drain I ordered was too big.* Important: Does your sink have an overflow? If so, then it should be in your inventory as well. If not, then you want to buy a drain without an overflow. If you don't know what an overflow is, google it before you buy a sink.* Half important, find out what flange diameter works best for your sink. If the drain flange is too big or too small, it can look ridiculous or cause water to pool in the drain. I was looking for a drain with the same flange diameter as the drain it was replacing.* Less important, ideally the color of the rubber gasket around the push button should match the surface of the drain as it will be visible when the drain is open. This oil rubbed bronze drain from Moen has a black rubber gasket that matches the ORB fairly well and doesn't stand out. Summary: Pros: * The drain works well and the quality of the parts seems solid * It fits my sink unlike any other drain I've been able to find at Revain or elsewhere * Installation was relatively easy, even for someone with limited plumbing experience. The instructions were ok but not amazing. * You can remove the pop-up part to remove dirt without going under the sink. * Detailed specifications are available (on other websites) so you can make sure it fits before you buy. Cons: * Expensive! A fairer price (in my opinion) would be in the $20-$25 range. I paid about $47. * The ORB finish is lighter than most ORB finishes and the drain has a slight defect in the finish around the edge. It wasn't big enough to send back.
