Review on HP W2338H 23-Inch Widescreen Monitor with Wide Screen and 60Hz Refresh Rate by Reid Longtin

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent quality in my rating

I bought this monitor after reading many reviews. I connect it to my MacBook Pro and it's great. I'm in no way tech savvy (which is why I'm a Mac person) and it was very easy to connect. My MacBook Pro actually came with a DVI port or something, so I didn't have to buy anything. Someone mentioned speakers in the monitor but I've never noticed if they are. (non-techy again) I put my laptop in my computer's keyboard drawer and routed the cables through the back so it now looks like a sleek desktop. I used a USB hub so I only need to plug in one USB cable when I want to switch from laptop to desktop. It sucks that a MacBook needs to be plugged in for external displays to work. The biggest problem I had was that the laptop was constantly giving off a lot of heat. I try to turn mine off when not in use to keep them cool. I have a big problem that nobody mentioned, so maybe I'm doing something wrong. I don't have a really heavy, massive table, but it's not crap either. Well, this monitor shakes when I'm typing, I think because of the tilt function or something. As if reacting to a slight movement on the countertop. I would suggest this won't happen unless your desk is really heavy, but it's really annoying. I've never had issues with anything else on my desk moving EVER from what I was writing or moving over, even things much smaller than the monitor. Maybe there's a way to tighten it up or something. It's not the stand itself that moves, only the screen. Also, I like this monitor. It's highly reflective, but that's just the downside of a glossy screen - great, crisp graphics with no glare. I don't have direct light so that's not a problem for me. Since I have a shake problem, I am considering wall mounting the screen.

Pros
  • Wide viewing angles allow you to get an excellent picture from anywhere in the room.
Cons
  • Limited ergonomic properties
