This worked very well for the purpose I needed.

This worked very well for the purpose I needed it for (video transfer from HDMI to DVI-D), no problem. Unusually, I didn't need USB power at all. I couldn't get anything through the 3.5mm audio output, USB powered or not, but I suspect this can only work if converted from HDMI. to VGA. This will successfully establish an HDCP connection, at least when using DVI.
