I bought this for my wife because I thought it would make hanging pictures easier for her (and me). It's not like this. This is a prime example of a great idea ruined by bad design.1. The plastic is surprisingly thin, so this thing flexes too much to be really useful. This contributes to many of my points.2. There is a small level recessed into the back of the bar which is useless as the only part of the unit that fits snugly against the wall is the back. If you use this device as intended, you will never see this level.3. The thumbscrews to tighten this thing require too many turns to loosen or tighten, so you'll almost certainly lose your measurements at this point. The vertical stripes hide the gradations on the horizontal stripes, so only an approximate measurement is possible. There should be some sort of window in the front so you can see where you are, but there isn't. The pins used to create the recesses on the wall are about 3/8 inch from the wall so if you try to push them with one hand while holding the device with the other hand , almost no force is required bend your arm like this. It's definitely causing a shift. It's this kink that is the reason for the lack of level slope, as many others have pointed out in their comments. 6. If the rings on your frame are within 2-3 inches of the top of the frame, you cannot use the horizontal bar as the top of the frame as described. This will make the vertical arms short enough that you can't bend them to deepen the wall with the pegs. I really wanted to like this product. That's an ingenious concept. Be that as it may, this device creates more frustration than just measuring and using a bubble level. Recommendation: You can get a really good 36" gauge for about the same price as this unit, or even just a decent gauge for about half the price. Just go that route and then you can really make sure the painting is straight hangs when finished.
