Review on ⌚ Timex Expedition Digital Chrono Alarm Timer 39mm Watch: Reliable Outdoor Timekeeping with Versatile Features by Heather Morales

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I used to like the Timex T48042 but not anymore.

It was the perfect watch. Large display, great functions, reliable, inexpensive. Every function of every T48042 I've had worked great. They serve me for several years until the watch strap tears, the dial is scratched more than I would like or the control buttons no longer work properly. But I always got a wonderful life from them. I love them so much I've bought nine of them in the last ten years. I now have four in reserve so I can continue using this model after Timex decides to discontinue them. So why one star to avoid buying it again? Timex has changed the design - replacing the battery (available from Revain for $0.61 each) is no longer easy. It used to be just a little Phillips jeweler's head and good eyesight. But the three I just bought don't have screws holding the batteries in place. I've searched the web for instructions but haven't found anything. I emailed Timex and they said they don't give any instructions - take it to a jeweler or mail it to them for a battery change ($12-$15). Hmm, $12 to $15 plus shipping and two to four weeks to get the watch back (according to the Timex email) or gas and time to take it to the jeweler, compared to $0.61 for a battery that goes to delivered to my home? This watch is now on a disposable battery. Because of this change, I advise you not to buy this watch unless you plan on throwing it away when the battery dies.

Pros
  • Black plastic body 41mm diameter with acrylic lens; gray digital display; Illuminated indiglo dial
Cons
  • Very expensive
