This crazy little spool of wire works fantastic on electric torches. It's especially great when I dye the yarn and cook it in a thin (cheap) stainless steel pot where I want the temperature to be as close to boiling as possible but with no bubbles to feel the fiber. In other words, this is a real test. This gives you temperature control. Two come in a box. It doesn't look like copper to me (a matte silver colored metal) so I don't know what it is, but it works great. There is a stronger zigzag design that I bought for twice the price that I don't like as much. Whatever you do, stay away from one-piece, one-handle reed diffusers. One of them was stuck (melted!) to my hot serpentine and I was very lucky to be able to stick a spatula in between and not damage my very old oven (no parts left). I use them a lot.
