Soft cozy material yes they shrink
I bought them L and ordered size XL. He wears 14 skinny jeans. Size L fit until washed and then lost a few inches in length and was otherwise quite tight. Size XL worked great for him after washing and L became a sleep pant for my 12 year old who is almost 5ft tall and weighs 95lbs. .
