Review on πŸ“Έ In-Depth Review of Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 Pro DX II Lens - Nikon Mount: Features and Performance Unveiled by Michael Custodio

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Approachable, sharp and well built; unfortunately has a big bug

PROS: - Professional build quality (much better than the average Nikon consumer product) - Very affordable, especially for UWA zoom - SHARP! very sharp - Great feel for zoom and focus ring - Internal zoom and focus (it's surprisingly nice, especially if you've never had a built-in zoom lens) CONS: - Extremely high chromatic aberration/color fringing at the edges (not extreme fringes, just -Very slight to spread (although this is common with other UWA zooms but that's something to keep in mind) First let me say this lens is SHARP!Focusing is begging (particularly due to the clutch mechanism), physically looks quite nice etc. The Color reproduction is also quite good and in line with what Nikon produces. This lens has 1 serious problem: it has extremely high chromatic aberration. This may not be a big deal for some users, but if you "if you want high contrast images at bright light, you'll definitely be looking in the CA I got such bad HA that some test shots I took with this lens g the colors at the edges were noticeably shifted into a purplish mush (sounds a lot worse than it actually was, but it's certainly noticeable). Unfortunately due to this issue I had to return the lens (and I mean when I say sad because I really wanted to leave this guy). So, can I recommend this lens? I would, for someone on a very limited budget. It's a great bend, the build quality seems much higher than lenses that are much more expensive. It's also sharp and produces some good images. That said, if you can afford to shell out I'd try to get a lens with slightly better optical performance, especially since CA is such a nuisance to fix (repairable but annoying nonetheless) and definitely a problem that cripples this lens . Seriously if Tokina fixed this problem I would be willing to pay around 1000 for this lens which is nice.
